Clause 4.4 A domain name provider may register domain names on its own behalf for its own use, subject to the minimum registrant terms and conditions. Add Where a domain name provider is registering a domain name on its own behalf under the "close and substantial connection" rule applications must be made through auDA, or another Registrar, for assessment of eligibility. Clause 4.2 Domain name providers must only register or renew a domain name at the request of a domain name registrant. Add A reseller, or other domain name supplier when acting as a registrant's agent may not enter into an agreement with the Registrant which states that domain names will be renewed automatically or on default after a two year period unless the Registrant declines renewal. For example An agent may not send an email to a Registrant informing them that their domain name is due for renewal and that if they do not respond within 7 days the domain name will be renewed automatically. I have had clients domains renewed by a hosting company who was/is also a Reseller by default when the client no longer required them and would like to see greater protection here. This would also ensure the accuracy of whois data and eligibility criteria. Regards Ian Halson
